About Your Body Positive Yoga Teacher

Hi I am Janice Kate and I run Light Yoga Space as a place to offer both online and in-person yoga, meditation, pranayama, and relaxation to EVERY BODY. I trained for many years in Classical Hatha Yoga and now have classical hatha as a foundation to everything I offer

I use the term EVERY BODY as a way of reaching out specifically to those of us who may have been put off yoga in the past, or who feel that our bodies will never be able to do yoga, or who need a gentle and alternative way in.

I offer group classes and one-to-one sessions online so that you can attend from wherever you are based, and I also offer in person classes, both group yoga and one-to-one yoga in St Leonard’s on Sea in Hastings

I was born and raised in Liverpool, trained in London, the Canadian mountains, the French mountains and India, and I’m now living on the South East English coast

My training had me submerged in a traditional ashram lifestyle. I practiced 2hrs of yoga daily, meditation, pranayama, karma yoga, bhakti yoga, vedanta. CPD included adapted hatha yoga for pregnancy, study of Sanskrit, chanting, yogic literature and philosophy. I had a strong, organic physical practice.

In my late thirties I developed fibromyalgia, a baffling condition with symptoms that include all over chronic pain, debilitating stiffness and chronic fatigue. I struggled against the impact of this for years until finally getting a diagnosis and coming to terms with a different way of practicing yoga. This has had a limiting impact on what I can now manage physically, yet has made me a more intuitive, compassionate and nuanced teacher. I guide my students with empathy and a sensitivity to what different people can manage

My drive now is to support people via yoga, through transitional life phases and conditions, such as:

  • fibromyalgia,

  • menopause,

  • chronic fatigue

  • burnout

  • long covid

  • coming to terms with ageing

  • neurodivergence

  • addiction recovery

  • pregnancy

  • new parenthood

  • ongoing parenthood

  • gender transition

  • weight gain

  • grief and loss

  • emotional recovery from abortion

  • emotional recovery from miscarriage

  • depression

  • MS

  • ME

to name just a few.

I will work intuitively with whatever you bring, to assist and empower you in developing you own unique way to practice. Yoga is for all of us, as we navigate society, capitalism, our own body, change, health, loss and life.

A few more things about me

I am a visual artist with a fine art BA from Central St Martins College of Art & Design and a Fine Art Printmaking MA from The Royal College of Art

I have always had a deep connection with animals and find healing and delight from being in their presence. I share my home life with Frida, Asher and Hazelnut Smudge (see pic below)

Over the years I have explored how simply having willing animals present as we practice can bring so much joy, laughter and healing. I am in the process of organising 2024 programmes TBA here. In the past I have offered:

  • Bring your dog to yoga classes

  • yoga and dog walking adventures

  • yoga at a farmed animal sanctuary,

  • yoga in nature in beautiful re-wilded farmland, home to 16 semi wild therapy horses
