Yoga and healing with horses - a residential summer yoga retreat in Oxfordshire

This yoga  retreat will combine the beautiful, transformative powers of yoga with the gentle, healing energy of horses. No riding involved, just healing and therapeutic work

 

When:

Friday August 11th - Sunday August 13th

What:

This will be a 2 night residential retreat in Oxfordshire surrounded by luscious English countryside. We will practice daily yoga and meditation in the Sivananda tradition. We will spend 1 day doing group introductory work with a herd of gentle horses and on the second day optional one-to-one therapeutic work with the horses is available for those who want to go deeper. We will enjoy a long country walk, relaxation time, delicious vegan food, beautiful, peaceful surroundings and the company of gentle, like-minded folk

The Horses

Hopethruhorses is an established Equine Involvement Therapy facility in Garsington, Oxfordshire, founded and run by experienced equine therapist Jo Corfield.

NO RIDING INVOLVED

This is about working with the horses on an emotional and energetic level to overcome the fears that entrap us, for personal transformation and healing. Think the healing potential of swimming with dolphins, only in a luscious field in the English countryside meditating and connecting with equine energy

Jo set up and runs Hopethruhorses entirely on her own and has a deeply beautiful, intimate and trusting relationship with each member of her herd of 19 beloved horses. She knows each horse inside out and her story, and theirs, are utterly inspirational. The Yoga

The yoga will be led by Janice Kate Fisher proprietor of Light Yoga Space, a beautiful East London based yoga studio purely focused on Sivananda yoga. We will be practicing  two classical hatha yoga sessions per day and 2 yogic meditation sessions, led in the beautiful and authentic Sivananda tradition.

Janice has been studying Sivananda classical hatha yoga for over 20 years and has been teaching for 15. She is passionate about supporting herself and others on the journey towards a healthy body, a healthy body-image, mental health, well-being and self-acceptance. She very much believes that every-'body' can  benefit from the transformative power of yoga.  She is dedicated to Sivananda yoga and believes wholeheartedly in it as a practical force for good in the world

Built for spiritual retreat we will stay in The Abbey Sutton Courtenay,  a unique medieval building, set in beautiful, extensive grounds, tucked away in the small village of Sutton Courtenay, Oxfordshire. We will eat our vegan meals, and practice yoga in the old Abbey itself, whilst the sleeping accommodation will be very simple single or twin rooms in the guest facility outhouse

Friday

It is fine to arrive any time after 4 on Friday  if you need to finish work and come later that is ok

Saturday

You can attend the horse portion of this day on it's own as a non residential one day retreat, meeting at Hopethruhorses 11:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (see prices)

8:00 a.m. Meditation

8:30 .m. Yoga 

9:30 a.m. Breakfast

11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. meet Jo and the horses

1:00 p.m. Picnic lunch in the field with the horses

2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Meditation with the horses and horse work

 4:00 - 5:00 p.m.  Yoga in the field with the horses

6:00 p.m. Dinner 

7:00 p.m. Evening meditation

 

Sunday

Jo will have a few slots available on Sunday for one-to-one, couple or small group  sessions at a special discounted rate for our retreat members. These will go on a first come first served basis so early booking is recommended. If you do want to book a private session you will need to contact Jo directly with a deadline for booking being mid July 2017

Note: all activities are voluntary although we highly recommend you join in all the yoga, meditation and horse-work sessions to get maximum benefit from the retreat if you can
