The Light Yoga Space
The Light Yoga Space is a beautiful independently run yoga studio purely focused on Sivananda yoga.
We are the only yoga studio in North or East London dedicated entirely to Sivananda Yoga.
Our Aim
Our aim is to make Sivananda Yoga more readily accessible to people in North and East London.
Whilst there is plenty of Yoga North and East of the river it is hard to find a timetable of purely Sivananda Sequence, Classical Hatha Yoga Classes.
The UK branch of the Sivananda Organisation is centred in their City Ashram in Putney, South West London.
About Sivananda Yoga
Sivananda Yoga stems from the teachings of the great Indian Yoga Masters Swami Sivananda and his disciple Swami Vishnudevananda.
Sivananda Yoga offers an integrated yoga practice. There is a strong focus on exercises and the physical benefits of yoga. There is also a strong focus on other aspects of yoga such as Proper Breathing, Proper Relaxation, Meditation and Positive Thinking, Study of Yogic Scriptures, Karma Yoga and Kirtan and Yogic Chanting.
What We Offer
At the Light Yoga Space we offer a Timetable of weekly mixed level drop-in Sivananda Sequence Yoga Classes including Beginners’ Yoga Classes and adapted Sivananda Pregnancy Yoga Classes. We also offer Yoga Courses, Yoga Workshops Meditation Workshops, Meditation Courses, Satsangs, 1:1 Yoga, and Yoga at Work Sessions, and One Day Yoga & Meditation Mini Retreats.
The Location
The Light Yoga Space studio is tucked away in a converted warehouse in De Beauvoir Village in Dalston, Hackney.
We are a short walk from Haggerston, Dalston Junction and Dalston Kingsland Overground Stations on the new improved Overground Network.
We are situated very close to Stoke Newington, London Fields, Hoxton and Shoreditch, and are very easy to get to from Angel, Old Street, Highbury & Islington, Liverpool Street, London Bridge and the City.
The Space
The studio is light and pretty with a huge wall of windows and simple décor. The space itself has a calming influence on the mind and provides a welcoming and authentic environment to practice yoga in.
Sivananda Yoga Class Sequence
All our yoga classes follow the Sivananda Yoga Class Sequence a Classical Sequence of Hatha Yoga Postures (Asanas), Relaxation, and Breathing Exercises (Pranayama) originating from India and practiced by yogis and spiritual seekers throughout the ages.
The Sivananda Yoga Class Sequence can be practiced strenuously providing a dynamic physical workout or very gently and slowly creating deep calm and stillness. With Sivananda yoga we give our minds and souls as much of a cleanse and a workout as we do our bodies.
To establish a calm mental attitude and inner focus the classes always begin with a short chant, a relaxation, and deep breathing exercises (Pranayama).
After establishing this inward focus we move into a sequence of flowing warm-up movements called the Sun Salutations (Surya Namaska), followed by leg stretches and core strength leg lifts.
Having thoroughly warmed up we move into the main body of the class with a sequence of 12 powerful yoga postures (Asanas). As you advance in your practice dynamic and fun variations of the 12 postures are introduced.
The classes always close with a longer guided deep-relaxation to allow the benefits of the practice to be fully metabolised, and to encourage further stress-release and healing.

Our Teachers
The Light Yoga Space was established in 2009 by Janice Kate Fisher and Peter Vestergaard both highly experienced and fully trained Sivananda yoga teachers deeply committed to the practice and teachings of Sivananda Yoga.
Everything else...
There is no need for you to book in advance for any of our drop-in sessions. Affordable Bundles of classes are available for those of you who want to practice more regularly, or courses if you prefer a more systematic approach.
We provide mats blankets and cushions. All you need, to do is to come along and learn Yoga!
