What is Ayurveda?


Ayurveda is the ancient healing system from India that promotes longevity, balance and happiness.


Prakriti


Meaning 'knowledge of life' Ayurveda aims to alleviate suffering by treating the root cause of disease according to our unique constitution (Prakriti). This is the unique mix of the three biophysical forces (doshas): Vata, Pitta and Kapha, which comprise the elements of Ether/Air, Fire

Water and Water/Earth respectively.


Your Unique Constitution


Vata

Vata people tend to be very tall, lean and active with restless and creative minds. They benefit from sweet, sour, salty, warm, unctuous and grounding foods as well as warm oil massage in order to avoid imbalances of anxiety, insomnia, dry skin and constipation.


Pitta

Pitta people are of a more medium build with sharp, purposeful and intelligent personalities. They benefit from cooling, sweet and bitter foods as well as non-competitive activities in order to avoid imbalances of anger, rashes, loose motions and hyperacidity.


Kapha

Kapha people tend to have a larger frame with a loyal, calm and grounded nature. They benefit from warming, spicy and bitter foods as well as stimulating activities and dry massage in order to avoid imbalances of obesity, diabetes and lethargy.


What can Ayurveda do for me?


Less suitable life choices and general life stresses can lead to imbalance in our constitution leaving us vulnerable to those ailments and conditions to which we may be genetically and constitutionally susceptible.


Harmonising more closely with the rhythms of nature and rebalancing our constitution through appropriate nutrition, herbs, exercise, relaxation and lifestyle choices together with Ayurvedic therapies, can help to restore health and prevent disease while improving our vitality and happiness.

About Angie Fraser


Ayurvedic Practitioner (MAPA)


MSc, BSc (1st Class Hons) Ayurvedic Medicine


PGDip, BSc (Hons) Immunology/Pharmacology          


Angie is a qualified Ayurvedic Practitioner and board member of the Ayurvedic Practitioners Association (APA) with a Master of Science degree in Ayurvedic Medicine and first class honours (BSc) degree in Complementary Health Sciences (Ayurveda).


She has been involved in extensive therapeutic training in the UK and India and conducted clinical research into stress.  She also coordinates the Ayurvedic clinical training programme at Middlesex University, tutoring students on Ayurveda and Yoga and is qualified to teach Hatha Yoga based on the Sivananda tradition.


Previously Angie spent many years writing about health as an editor after studying the biosciences of Immunology and Pharmacology.


Angie now runs her practise Ayurvedic Me from Yoga Place in London which aims to help people take control of their own health by kindling awareness and healing using the tools of Ayurveda and Yoga.
